Amano Solo exhibition in Taiwan

Candy Girl by Yoshitaka Amano

April 15 ~ May 14, 2023

This exhibition, "Candy Girl by Yoshitaka Amano," held at Ever Harvest Art Gallery, is his long-awaited exhibition in Taiwan. The "Candy Girl" series was originally a collection of graffiti works that Mr. Amano painted to relax during his spare time, and the original plan was to create a total of 108 "Candy Girls".

Therefore, when Mr. Amano walks down the road and sees girls of various ages and occupations, he subconsciously remembers these images and then reproduces them as portraits of girls based on his memories. These include well-known characters he created or participated in designing, such as Tina, Alice, and Cecil from the Final Fantasy series; some are inspired by himself or his friends and relatives, such as Yuki and Natsu from the Candy Girl series; and others are purely from his imagination, such as the Arabian princess and magician in the "1001 Nights" series.

All of these girls have their own characteristics and styles, but they share a strong Amano style with delicate features, a slender, girlish figure, and minimal, colorful clothing or accessories. The girls all look vivid and charming, but they also have a sense of mystery and distance from the real world. Of course, Mr. Amano also creates artworks specifically for certain regions. For example, in his solo exhibition at the Modern Art Museum in Shanghai in 2019, he created a series of "Shanghai Girls" in response to his impressions of the girls in Shanghai, China.
